Quarries of microgranite, spilite and alluvial materials

Mozé-sur-Louet quarry (Pont Chauveau)

The geological formation shows the extensive volcanic activity of the sandstone-schist stratum occurring during the Early Ordovician and Late Devonian periods (Paleozoic Era about 420 to 380 mya). The whole quarry has grown within a microgranite reef with a thickness of layer higher than 300 m.

The plant runs a microgranite quarry and a material processing unit, that is: extraction, production, loading, sales and transports of products manufactured on site. The materials are designed to supply construction works, asphalt workstations or even concrete plants and prefabrication factories.

The quarry is located on the district of Mozé-sur-Louet 15 kilometres in the south of Angers along the RN 160 (Angers – Cholet). Unless indicated otherwise, it is open to the public from 7.30 am to 12.00 pm and from 1.30 to 6.00 pm (spring-summer) or from 8.00 am to 12.00 pm and from 1.30 to 5.30 pm (fall-winter).

Beaulieu-sur-Layon quarry (Pierre-Bise)

Pierre-Bise quarry is situated along the sandstone-schist and volcanic stratum of Saint-Georges-Sur-Loire (created during the Paleozoic Era). The site is formed of spilite (basalt family), a submarine, effusive rock that may initially come from the formation of an island arc. The thickness of layer that can be exploited is higher than 100 m.

The site is specialized in eruptive rocks quarrying (spilite, basalt family) and has also a material processing unit. The materials are designed for asphalt plants, urban development, roadworks companies, public works contractors and prefabrication factories.

The quarry is located on the district of Mozé-sur-Louet 20 kilometres in the south of Angers along the A87 motorway (Angers – Cholet). Unless indicated otherwise, it is open to the public from 7.30 am to 12.00 pm and from 1.30 to 6.00 pm (spring-summer) or from 8.00 am to 12.00 pm and from 1.30 to 5.30 pm (fall-winter).

Vivy sand-pit (Les Monteaux)

The sand-pit is located on the ancient alluvium of the Loire valley second bottom. They are composed of reddish, sandy beds with gravel lenses and pebble deposits. Flint and quartz pebbles are the most common ones but you can also find granite or Eocene sandstone pebbles. The sandy fraction is composed of white or pink quartz grains combined with feldspaths, flint grains, volcanic grains and heavy minerals. The ancient alluvium lay on the Cenomanian clayey sands.

The quarry exploits an alluvial borrow pit and can also process materials designed for asphalt plants, urban development, roadworks companies, public works contractors and prefabrication factories.

The site is 3.5 km away from Vivy (westbound) and 7.5 km away northbound. You can get to the sand-pit through the RD 147 then the borough secondary road N°6.
